Harnessing the Power of Intention in The New Year
2023 has been a year full of rapid changes and personal growth. For the past couple of weeks, my mind, body, and spirit have been calling for rest and reflection. So I’m honoring myself by doing just that.
Journaling has been a part of my life since my pre-teen years, many of which I still have. I've been lying across my bed for the past few hours with about 10 of my journals spread out, reading them like a novel. I just finished reading my more recent journals from the past 5 years and they are full of manifestations that surpassed any New Year's resolutions I could have ever conceived.
For some I didn’t even have a plan on how I would achieve, I conceived the thought, wrote it down, my actions naturally followed and God did the rest. Guess that’s how manifestation works. If I ever had any doubt, reading these journals and reflecting on my life experiences erased all of that.
New Year’s Resolutions vs. Intention
New Year's Resolutions are a common tradition, however, I look at every day as a way to cultivate continuous growth and positive change. Life doesn't wait for a specific date, and each moment offers an opportunity for renewal. Instead of annual resolutions, I choose to embrace daily intentions, fostering a lifestyle of constant evolution and self-improvement.
Journaling with Intention
Although I don’t usually set New Year’s resolutions, I do journal and set goals for myself all year long. This January, my journaling will take on a new form. Instead of free writing, I'll use positive intentions as daily prompts, to shape my thoughts and actions.
A positive intention is a purposeful and optimistic mindset directed towards achieving a desired outcome or fostering personal growth. It involves consciously setting and focusing on constructive goals, affirmations, or actions that contribute to a positive and fulfilling life. Practicing positive intentions can enhance motivation, mindset, and overall well-being. It's a proactive approach to shaping one's reality in a favorable and empowering way.

Embracing this form of mindful journaling will allow me to harness the power of daily intention and shape my reality by inviting positivity, clarity, and purpose into my life and fostering a lifestyle of constant evolution and self-improvement.

Positive Intention Journal Prompts to Start the New Year

Grab yourself a new notebook, and beginning January 1, 2024, let’s get started with intentional journaling.
Set the Scene:
I like to journal each night before bed, however, that doesn’t always happen so I do it in the morning before I start my day. Either way, do what works best for you.
Find a quiet and comfortable space, eliminate distractions, and create an environment conducive to reflection.
Reflect on the Day:
Begin by reflecting on your day. Acknowledge your emotions, experiences, and any significant events.
Mindful Writing:
In a new notebook, write down the date at the top of the page (I like to do this so when I’m looking back I can recall what was happening at the moment even if I don’t write it out in the journal) then write the prompt for that day.
Respond to the prompt by writing slowly and deliberately, focusing on each word. Engage your senses and stay present in the act of writing. Continue your writing by acknowledging if there are challenging emotions, and explore them with curiosity. Write about how you felt and why, without judgment.
Let Go of Perfection:
Remember, this is a personal practice. There's no need for perfection. Embrace the process and your unique journey. Be kind to yourself in your reflections and acknowledge areas of growth without self-criticism.
End with Affirmations:
Conclude your journal session with positive affirmations carry them with you in your mind throughout the day and remind yourself of your strengths and capabilities.
Mindfulness is Key
The key is to approach it with openness, presence, and a genuine willingness to connect with your inner thoughts and emotions. Mindful journaling will allow you to harness the power of daily intention and shape your reality by inviting positivity, clarity, and purpose into your life and fostering a lifestyle of constant evolution and self-improvement far beyond the beginning of the new year.
