holistic plant-based herbal cleansing journey

In September, the week before my 37th Birthday I did a small digestive cleanse and shared a little of that process with you, remember the blueberries and nuts? That's what was going on. By now you know that I closely follow a whole food, plant-based diet with the occasional deviation of seafood, and lightly processed foods.  I also have herbal tea three times a day, but only a couple of the herbs in my blends are diuretics - herbs that support the body in eliminating waste through frequent urination.

I'm pretty tuned in to my body, so I can tell when it's time for a cleanse. I start feeling sluggish, and bloated, and my digestion goes off track. My joints get stiff, my skin loses its glow, I get brain fog, my sleep patterns go haywire, and my mood is all over the place. Processed foods play a part, but daily exposure to heavy metals and air pollution, chemicals, and toxins, found in foods, yes even some whole foods, personal care products, and germs don’t help either.

Many years ago, before I switched to a plant-based lifestyle, I tried detox supplements that promised to cleanse the body and boost health. However, these claims turned out to be false. They deprived my body of nutrients, left me with low energy, and didn't really improve anything. So, I made a promise to myself not to go down that path again.

what is a body cleanse?

A “cleanse” or a “detox” is “a variety of ‘detoxification’ diets, regimens, and therapies — sometimes called ‘detoxes’ or ‘cleanses’ — is suggested as a way to remove toxins from your body, lose weight or promote health.

Thankfully, our bodies come equipped with their own detox system, and when we take good care of it, all our organs work together to keep us feeling healthy.

Changing our diet and lifestyle is the most effective way to make the most of our body's ability to remove toxins. So, a cleanse is a healthy way to realign and assist your body in doing what it's meant to do: eliminate toxins and maintain your well-being.

why I’m choosing to cleanse?

It's November now, and that sluggish feeling, bloating, and tightness in my joints is creeping back in, so I know it's time for a cleanse. This time I want to focus on a more refined and holistic approach to cleansing. So I'm combining what I'm learning from my studies in Nutrition, Integrative and Holistic Health, and Herbalism with my personal experience in a plant-based diet and herbal teas for a more effective outcome.

plant-based herbal cleansing

My goal with this holistic, plant-based herbal cleanse is to maximize my body's ability to remove toxins in a natural and risk-free way, while restoring balance to my mind, body, and spirit.

To achieve this, I’ll include specific nutrient-dense whole foods into my diet that naturally aid in detoxing my body. I’ve blended a new set of herbs for a tea that helps with cleansing, rebuilding liver cells, eliminating toxins, and improving organ health. I'll incorporate mindfulness techniques to promote mental and spiritual well-being during the cleanse.

holistic wellness + cleansing

It’s my personal belief that your health is the key to your well-being and success. Our bodies set the limits for what we can achieve, not just physically, but mentally and spiritually as well.  One of the many reasons why maintaining a healthy mind, body, and spirit is so crucial to me.

Having a clear mind, calm spirit, physical vitality, and well-being have been a Godsend in navigating the ins and outs of life these past couple of years, so I know firsthand how important it is to invest time, energy, and resources into ensuring that all three are in harmony.

As always, I'll document the journey, and share the process and outcome on my socials, so stay tuned.
